Re: Radcliffe
In Response To: Re: Radcliffe ()

Sue,

This is excellent, and I think nails it because we know that "our" John Thomas Radcliffe was also known as Johnny Pat (the "Pat" used to identify his father in Manx patois, as I understand it from CRs book). In Liverpool, in the Police force he was known as "Pat Radcliffe", because there were so many John Radcliffes there at the time (I know of at least 30!!). Further, one of his daughters has him as "John Patrick" in her marriage register entry rather than John Thomas Radcliffe. "Our" John Thomas inherited property known in the family as "Regaby Veg", retired from the Police force, returned to the Island and occupied this property until his death. We have photographs taken on family visits to Regaby Veg but remain curious to know what property precisely it was ... and from whom he inherited it.

Thus, the "pedigree tree" based on the information I have from you and Carol in particular is:

Charles Radcliffe [?-1752]
3 older siblings
George [1733-1800]
Charles [1754-1823]
4 older siblings
John [1786-?]
Patrick [1822-1889]
John Thomas (Johnny Pat) RADCLIFFE [1850-1928]
5 younger siblings
3 younger siblings
5 younger siblings
2 younger siblings

Therefore, I guess, we (well my children) are twigs on the Croggane Radcliffe branch of CR's husband's family - I would love CR to have known.

Kind regards, and many thanks to all - Bernard Diaz
