Re: Radcliffe
In Response To: Radcliffe ()

Constance Radcliffe wrote "Charles was succeeded in the farm by his eldest son George (1733-1800). A younger son Philip died in the Western Mediterranean in 1758, while in His Majesty's Service in the Seven Years' War, being one of the first of the family to follow a career abroad. George's heir was another Charles (1754-1823); a second son, William, had the nickname Frangagh (French), but it is not clear whether this was because of residence in France, or trade with it. The third and last Charles (1779-1852) of Croggane had four younger brothers, two of them called John, and from the younger John, a boat builder (born 1786), were descended the branch known as the 'Pat Radcliffes' from the name of his eldest son, a tailor and tidewaiter in Ramsey. Patrick's eldest son, Johnny Pat, was farming Regaby Veg for a time, and his two younger sons emigrated to the USA. So far as is known, Johnny Pat's grandson is the only member of the Croggane Radcliffes resident in the North of the Island, where even the name of the quarterland is almost forgotten, as the fields have been incorporated in Ballalheaney for over a hundred years".
