sue - I've done quite a bit of work on 18th C Michael + Ballaugh - in Ballaugh burials I think Brian missed a page of Corkills out + there are many other errors when compared to FHS transcription - now that FHS transcription could be wrong but those entries I double checked against parish reg seem ok
anyway there is a need of a significant rechecking of burial index - my own thought is that as the IoMFHSoc has now retranscribed their publications for CD Rom then pulling out a composite index is much easier and should replace Brian's index.
His work on the wills index is generally excellent post 1700 (when the indices are also good) tho there are a few confusing entries based I think on submitted transcriptions that omit the book ref etc (+ one or two that are just incorrect) + some where the index is also wrong. Pre 1800 is another matter - there the much much better index to episcopal wills was done by Les Quilliam and his group of helpers - the archideaconal in later part of 17th C are ok (not found that many funnies yet) but earlier than say 1675 needs a relook along the lines of Les's work (this was started as there is a new index for an early film.)
