Sue, after reading this post I have spent considerable time considering my claim to John Cain's parents, John Cain and Elizabeth Creech. I will give you my reasoning and would welcome your comments.
John Cain was married to Sarah Maxwell in Ulverston in 1875, his age is given as 22, his father is John, quarryman. Working initially from this I looked for a birth 1852/3. Census return 1881 gave his birth year as 1851, b Isle of Man. 1891, b 1852 Ramsey, 1901,( living away from Sarah,) b 1850, Ramsey, 1911, living in Douglas, b 1848, Ramsey. The last census return made me look outside of the 1852/1853 birth year. When I found the birth for John Cain, Ramsey, parents Elizabeth Creech and John Cain not only did their children's names reflect those of my John's children I the name Creech made me remember a story that my grandmother, Sarah Caine, related to me over 50 years ago. She told me that when she had told her father that she was marrying Joseph Barry (third generation Manx) he had been against it because he said that her Manx heritage was 'pure', that the Cains and the 'creatures of Man' were the oldest familes on the Island. Do you think that this link is too weak? Diane
