Re: John Cain(e) 1849
In Response To: Re: John Cain(e) 1852 ()

Hello Diane & Donna,
Diane, your message:
"Hi Donna, the 1901 census showed Sarah, John Caine's wife as being 'married' but I couldn't find John, my g.grandad. His age on his marriage certificate indicated that he had been born in 1853 with a father named John. There were three John Caines born on the IOM that year all of them with a father called John. The 1911 census showed Sarah Maxwell and John Caine living together in Douglas, his year of birth as 1847. That year only one John Caine with a father also John. The names of his siblings matched those of g.aunts and g.uncles. Yes, he married Elizabeth Creech and knowing this I have been able to take the family back a couple of generations. Thanks again, Diane"

As Donna will want to add this to her Cain database, the following is incorrect: "The 1911 census showed Sarah Maxwell and John Caine living together in Douglas, his year of birth as 1847. That year only one John Caine with a father also John."

The only extracted baptism on the IGI in 1847 of a John Cain with father John was the one I put in my first reply, with mother Margaret.
The only John Cain b.1847 IOM in the 1911 census was also the wrong one (details given in my first reply).

The correct John in the 1911 census was one of seven John Cain(e)s from adjoining years to 1847, all b.IOM.

"Sarsh" (yes it does look like an "s") had 13 children with 7 still alive and 6 had died.

In the 1891 census they were in England, Lancs, at 2f, Brig Street, Barrow:

Donna, you posted the family in the 1851, '61, '71 and '81 censuses. I had another look at the 1851 census scan to look at daur Margaret aged 13 (who would have been from an earlier marriage for John, or pre-marriage) in case you were using the FHS transcript. If so, Brian indexed this, and was the reason he then bought fiche from the PRO to redo all his census transcripts and indexes.

There are only a few differences. Baldromma is spelt like that, and John is a labourer at I.Ore mines b.Braddan, and Daur Margarett 13 is a Sunday School scholar with "Do" [ditto] to her siblings b. Maughold.
I couldn't find her in Maughold records.

If Brian was right in giving Elizabeth's bapt as 24 March 1819 Santon, she took off 4 or 5 years for each census, as did John Cain following the 1851 census.
