Just to amplify Sue’s response a little, the second marriage, to Margaret Christian, took place at Braddan on 15th August 1858.
The James Joughin that married Margaret Ann Kermode in 1828 was baptised at Lezayre in 1800. His parents were William Joughin and Margaret Corlett. This family of Joughins originated at Crosby farm in Bride, a different line from the James that we have been looking at, who came from the Andreas main line. Naturally I assumed that the James who had been baptised at Lezayre was the one that married Margaret Crowe at Lezayre, until someone proved me wrong. That 1800 baptism has an element of uncertainty, as do all the Lezayre baptisms of that time, as the register records that in 1803 it was found that no baptisms had been recorded since 1789. The register was reconstructed after a meeting of parishioners for this purpose in October 1803. One can imagine the scene, with the mothers, especially, excitedly working out the dates: “No, no, it was the Sunday after Michaelmas the year you had your third boy.” etc. etc.
The bride was from the Claughbane family of Kermodes. She was an aunt of P M C Kermode, he of the Manx Crosses, and founder of the Manx Museum, etc.
