From your message:

"-however the marriage in Liverpool you mention does not appear to be relevant -"

if you read through all the messages in the thread which relate to Edward Keig and the search for the surname of the Emily who married him, the 1865 Liverpool marriage query was solved by Pauline when she found that it was between an Emily Joughin and a William Johns. And the only reason I'd been looking for details of it was so that I could prove that the Emily Joughin in question was definitely a different Emily Joughin from the one b 1831 Douglas ( a prime candidate for the Emily b 1831 Douglas who married Edward Keig ).

There seems to be no online record of a marriage between Edward Keig and Emily nee ???? (NB I'm not suggesting that no marriage took place, only that for some reason it doesn't appear in the IGI or the mainland BMD) The IGI record which does exist is not one which has been extracted from parish records ---- it's just a guess on the part of an earlier researcher who submitted the entry.

There's no way of knowing whether the marriage took place in the IOM or in England.. Edward was definitely living and working as a journeyman joiner in Liverpool in 1851, in the same household as several other Manx people. It wasn't uncommon for Manx couples to marry on the mainland. But it's more likely that the marriage took place in the IOM.

The most likely date would be 1857/8, as this would tie in with the baptism of the oldest child in June 1859. If this were my family, I'd painstakingly go through the parish records for marriages in St Matthews, Douglas, starting with 1858, and then trying 1857 etc. You may find a record of the marriage which has been written so badly, or the page defaced, that it's been transcribed wrongly in the IGI making it unrecognisable..
