Hello Sue and Philip
Here's another shot in the dark. While looking through lists of baptisms in the IOM for girls called Emily circa 1840, I came across this one :

The 2 forenames, coupled with the fact that the birth was illegitimate, made me wonder whether this could be a late baptism for the posthumously born daughter of Robert Joughin. Could it be that Robert's parents initially refused to believe that a pregnant Margaret was carrying their grandchild, and that Margaret took her time to have the child baptised as Kerruish in the hope that she could use the Joughin name; and as the child grew, Robert's parents took to her and recognised her as Emily Christian Joughin ? Is it also possible that Margaret Kerruish was herself illegitimate, with a father John Christian ? Pure speculation, but it could account for there being no apparent trace of Margaret Christian b 1819 Lonan with a father, John, hatter.
