Now that FreeBMD has so many more index entries online I had another look for the 1871 census entry "Margaret Lewis dau 2 b Liverpool" living with her mother "Catherine Lewis head mar 39 b IOM", and Cath's nephew John Wade aged 19 b IOM - assumed to be your John Edwin Wade.

Bruce Ingram suggested that you find Margaret's birth cert because this would give her mother's maiden name - and this should be the same as the surname of John Wade's mother or father if she was his aunt.

On FreeBMD I found only:

I think we can forget about the 1870 Margaret who wouldn't have been recorded as aged 2 in 1871, and the 2 entries in Dec 1869 were at the most aged 18 months (an outside chance).

Did you check these last three amongst the numerous certs you bought? Would you please list the ones already seen and why you think they were the wrong ones, so that Julie doesn't duplicate your search?
