It is interesting to see that your grandfather attended St Georges School. The infant building was on
the corner of Barrack Street & was open till 1894.
St Barnabas 200 yards down the road had an infant
school till 1888. Attendance there would have entailed
a transfer at 7 to " big " school & so perhaps that
is why his family/ carers opted for the other one.
It was not uncommon for foster children to use the
household name . In times of early death of parents most child lodgers were assumed to be kith & kin . I
have one in my family much more recently.
