Thanks for the response. I had wondered about John's age. As the earlier census(1851 & 1861) made him born about 1816 I had wondered if he 'aged' himself by 1871 so as not to appear so much younger than his wife. I would also be interested in anyone elses thoughts on John Gawne's origins.
