William and Eleanor are with John & Isabella Sayle in 1861, Eleanor being described as step-daughter which I take to mean that she is the daughter of Isabella Caine, now remarried to John Sayle. I can't find what I wrote before but I agree that she was thus the daughter of John Clarke & Isabella Caine.
John Gawne has still not been identified with any certainty. Census ages put him as born around 1816 or 1809. The latter date is taken from the 1871 census when the family was in Malew. There is a John Gawne buried in Malew in 1879, age given as 70. This gives 1809 again and there do not seem to be any other John Gawne candidates. So this might point to him being the son of John Freer & Elizabeth Gawne, chr 12 Nov 1809 Braddan.
An alternative would be John Gawne 1816, son of John Gawne & Ann Sansbury of Rushen.
Esther could be buried Malew 1 Jul 1880 age 78, thus putting her birth at 1802.
If anyone has any ideas I too would certainly like to hear them.
