How did we get to Costain?
Anyway, thanks Bruce that is very helpful as regards the possible identity of John Costain m. Alice Gawne. I had already found his will but it contains no real clues as to his origins.
However, their second daughter was called Isabel which might support John's mother being Isabel Brew.
