Re: Douglas Borough Cemetery
In Response To: Re: Douglas Borough Cemetery ()

Are you aware that Jane Taggart was William Clague b. 1816's second wife?
Monumental Inscription Santon, IOM
To the memory of Catherine Clague alias Quine, wife of William Clague, who departed this life January 3, 1859, in the 41st year of her age.

I think Jane Taggart Clague's likely 1871 census entry is with Wm. RG10/5776 at 29 King St. Douglas page 36 probably E.D. 2 but can't say. As follows:
Household 208
William Clague head mar 54 Boot & Shoe maker Birth place Rushen
Jane Clague wife married aged 46 born Malew
Wm P
Eleanor J
Aged 10 and 8 respectively.

Or am I still barking up the wrong tree. On the other hand. I can't seem to locate the 1871 Ballakilpatrick Road census entry in Rushen yet and which you speak of for a Jane Clague and 14 year old niece Elizabeth Taggart. I'd be most interested if that truly were the John Clague b . 1814 household.

HOWEVER. Boy! was that an eye opener, your putting the John Clague and Catherine Kermod/Kermode/ Kermott family together. I found Thomas Clague b. abt 1790 in the IGI. No sweat. But he's the only one of their chidlren listed for John Clague and Catherine Kermod. On doing a search for John Clague and Cath Kermod's children, none came up because if anything, they're listed under John Clague and wife Cath Kermott and that didn't seem to compute in my search. Verrry interesting but frustrating that the only record of the marriage of John Clague and Catherine given in the IGI as taking place 22 DEC 1781 at Malew was a patron submission and not a parish extraction. Thanks for your pointers.

Never did find the Margaret Clague to John Quiggin marriage. Are John Kneen and Esther Kneen who married siblings Ellenor Clague and Thomas Clague related?
