Re: Thomas Kaneen of Andreas and Ohio

Hello Jim,

I will send you my file via e-mail, which has sources, but thought I would post this, in case anyone else has a Kaneen connection. I receive any corrections or additions you may have. I have not been able to identify the Thomas Neil (Kneal, Kneale ?) who was Betsy's second husband.

Thomas Kaneen married, at Andreas, December 25, 1819, Elizabeth Cleator.

Thomas and Betsy Kaneen immigrated on the Siroc, which arrived in New York from Liverpool, June 21, 1831. (Siroc; from Liverpool June 21, 1831 Manifest # 151: Thomas Keenan 40 shoemaker IOM; Betsey 40; Betsey 16; Jonathan 11; Charles 8; James 7; Robert 6; Mary Keenan 19 dressmaker. [WHERE IS THOMAS age 12?])

Thomas Kaneen was a shoemaker.

(Not yet located in 1840 census)

Elizabeth Cleator was born about 1791. Elizabeth married second, in Cuyahoga County, April 1, 1837, Thomas Neil.
According to Women of the Western Reserve, Mrs. Thomas Kneale, “widow Kaneen”, nee Betsey Claytor, came to Warrensville in 1845; her last residence was Missouri.

She apparently moved back to Cleveland after the death of her second husband.
