Re: A Manx IGI
In Response To: Re: A Manx IGI ()

When Brian suggested a Manx IGI I was under the impression that he meant an index of bapts and marriages, similar to his burial index.
In other words, not including witnesses at marriages, place names when given [although personally I'd like these included], or other details such as nicknames, with the exception of identifying illegitimate births.

The quickest way of creating an index of bapts and marriages would be by checking a printout by parish in date order against the LDS film of that parish, crossing out the entries which don't appear on the register, and correcting those that do appear if they are spelt wrongly or have added information which isn't on the register. [Or do the same thing with a laptop while checking the film.]

BTs are available on two LDS films from 1734-1799 [by parish, yearly].

I understand that LDS films can be kept on indefinite loan in Canada & USA, but in Oz we have 3-4 weeks for $6. Can renew, but not if someone else has ordered the film. Most FHCs allow pre-booking of a reader weekly for 2-4 hours. They have stopped allowing more than 10 photocopies from a film, so checking would have to be done within that time frame along with personal research.

I could, for example, produce a list (on Microsoft Word or WP) of Andreas marriages 1655-1752 from the par. reg. without much difficulty (with or without additional details when given), if someone could download the Andreas marriages in chronological order from the IGI for me to check against.
