Hello Viv I've only just picked up this thread. The following info might be of interest.
Thomas Shimmin born C. 1595-1600 died 20.12.1658 maried Jane Leece Born C. 1599 died 27.2.1661/2.
They farmed Close Buoy (Ballabooie) owned by Jane's brother, John Leece of Ballahowan (later Ballaleece)The farm was on the Kirk Patrick side of the River Neb and was in Particles.
Thomas and Jane had two children. Kathrin and Thomas.
After her husband's death Jane Shimmin made a complicated Deed of Settlement with her son, her daughter and her daughter's husband to be - William Cannell.
Jane also made a will leaving her son Thomas the Claddagh-more
It would seem that the Claddagh-more was Jane's personal property and not part of Close Buoy. Possibly having been given by her husband's parents in a (undiscovered) Marriage Contract.
This appears to be borne out by the fact that John Leece took action in the Episcopal Courtto recover Close Buoy from his niece Kathrin and her husband; but he did not contest Thomas's right to the claddagh-more.
Katherin & her husband died in Kirk Braddan. Kathrin 7.12.1696/7(Will) Her husban was buried 12.9.1669. They had three daughters.
I don't know what became of her brother Thomas. Presumably he remained in Kirk Patrick growing flax on the Claddagh-more
