Re: Dumbell family
In Response To: Re: Dumbell family ()

Thanks for your thoughts Sue. I don't have Rev.J's marriage particulars yet, and that is something I will need to do. I have been scrambling around for 2 years trying to find him on the Island, as I know he is Manx. When he left England on the ship "Hydaspes" he was already married with two children, so he married Ellen before he left for N.Z. but I don't know if that marriage took place in Mann or England. I don't even know yet if his children, at least the eldest, are Manx or English. The biggest problem for me seems to have been solved with this forums assistance, manny thanks, to try and find his roots on the Island by sorting out the possibility of illegitimacy. Now that I have been shown Jane / Janett Davidson this seems to have been solved, and even to see that Great Grandfather had Half siblings that he knew, and may even have stayed in contact with, gladdens my heart, as I was believing him to be such a solitary soul due to his illegitimacy.
Before signing of I have just stepped back into the forum and see that Sue has posted more about John and Ellen. A question from my inexperienced mind. Does the birth cert. lead me to believe his full name is John William Davidson Dumbell. Please correct me if need be. I will post all this anyway, even though some of it is now irrelevant.
