Re: Dumbell family
In Response To: Re: Dumbell family ()

Rev. John, Wife and family left Liverpool in the ship "Hydaspes" to sail to New Zealand, however they never arrived. "papers past" article that reported Rev. John having an accident on board the ship before arriving in Melbourne. "Way laid" in Australia, searched other passenger lists to find him and family on board S.S. Tararua from Standridge Pier Melbourne, to Hokitika, arriving Oct 6th 1870. 1861 England census shows him living with wife Ellen in a residence at Lancashire England, 31 yrs age. OK long story, sorry, but any references after this in England can't be my John. I have believed for some time that he returned to Mann to preach and work his ministry, however I am unable to prove this. Should he show up as a Minister in Church records or perhaps the "Manx Notebook" if this is so? About his illegitimacy, which Family name would he have been Christened, would he take the Genetic Fathers name or the adoptive fathers name?
