Hi David,
Please see my first reply to Janette where I quoted from the 1871 census. I had found a bapt in Lancs in 1864 for a James William son of James STARKIE & Margaret whom I thought might be brother James, in the absence of other bapts.
However I found James William in the 1911 census who looked like this Lancs one, and he had been married for 18 years, so clearly not the brother James.
In the 1901 census at "The Lion Braaid" James Starkey 30 Lead miner was b.Marown (but b.Braddan in the 1871 census). His age was wrong, but he was back living with the uncle from previous censuses: Jacob Lewin 45 Stone Quarry Man b.Braddan.
In the 1911 census at The Lion Marown:
LEWIN, Jacob Head Married M 55 1856 General Labourer Isle of Man b.Bradden
LEWIN, Ann Wife Married 35 years F 55 1856 Isle of Man b.Marown (had 3 children, all living).
House had 3 rooms.
RG number:RG14, Piece:34718, Reference:RG14PN34718 RD635 SD1 ED6/1 SN23
Registration District:Isle of Man, Enumeration District:6/1, Parish:Marown.
My only problem with your James Joseph is that I didn't see the "Joseph" in any of the records, and I couldn't find the James in 1911 whom I had followed through four censuses. Did he marry as James Joseph, and what was given as his father's name and occupation? Do you know where he was in 1911?
Also, were you able to find bapts for James and William, and do you know what happened to their parents?
It is very interesting that you have researched this family, and most helpful for Janette.
Thanks,
Sue
