I am definite that his wife was Jane Hodgson. I have the marriage certificate and a hand written note by Hugh listing his parents and siblings as well as his wife's. I assume you are aware of the enty in the Oxford dictionary of Biography.

As I've said before I have a copy of the Porcupine with his obituary in I can send you a scan if you haven't got a copy. I also have an obit from the Liverpool Mercury and somewhere I've got a brief one from the the New York Times. I also have a clip from a newspaper about the libel case he was involved in.

One of his books Harry Birkett is on google books. Birkett is a family name from his wifes side.
