The note I referred to only mentions one wife Elizabeth and gives the date as I said but it could possible be 28th not 23rd. It also implies that John & Elizabeth both came from Douglas but might just mean they where married there.

Excuse my ignorance but is Douglas considered to be a separate parish or is it part of Onchan or Braddan?

Are you saying that you think my John was married twice or just that are two possible marriages?

I assume the Elizabeth on the note must be the second and he's just got the year wrong. However if your marriage date and my birth dates are correct then Jane would have been born less than a month after the second marriage? Possibly that was the case and he changed the year to make it more respectable.
