I have Shimmin ancestry and a connection with Hugh. My ancestor was Philip Teare Shimmin (b.1853) who was a cousin (initially thought to be a nephew) of Hugh and he went to live with Hugh in Liverpool's Rodney Street as a young man. Philip stayed in Liverpool, living in Sefton Park. Philip's father was farmer Philip Shimmin of Maughold (son of another Philip and Isabella Gelling of Ballaugh) and his wife was daughter of Ramsey's Harbour Master, Sarah/Eleanor Teare. There is an interesting story here, but I shall wait for a response first!
Philip Teare Shimmin's daughter Phyllis Mona Shimmin (my great-grandmother) inherited Hugh's editorial chair at The Porcupine.
