I don't know what you know but it was Hugh Shimmin that got me into to doing family history in the first place.
I inherited a certificate granting him the freedom of the city of liverpool and a copy of his obituary in the Porcupine.
I was told that he was my paternal grandmothers guardian and I went on a voyage of discovery from there.
It took me six months of hard work to find out the truth.
I haven't stopped since.
I must say I'm fascinated by your reference to your grandmothers role as editor of the Porcupine.
BTW a witness at my grandmothers wedding was a Philip Shimmin it could be Teare but you know what these old documents are like.
Where were you two years ago when I was pulling my hair out trying to find any connections with Hugh :-)
