Yes, I think somewhat aware of Hugh's importance. I've always wanted to get hold of a photo or sketch of him - they surely must exist but haven't found any. Do let me know if you come across any? I have a copy of a book on Hugh and his writings writeen some years ago by a Lancaster University academic. But I did not know that Hugh was a Freemason of the City of Liverpool; well done Hugh. I also had no idea what humble beginnings he had. Phyllis Shimmin (1895-1951) was rather grand by all accounts having gone to Huyton College and "came out" at The Adelphi Hotel in 1913; she married a wealthy City banker who had gone previously to Liverpool College. They first met at a Liverpool Scottish Regiment Ball c.1912. (I am transcribing his diaries now). Therefore it seems Phyllis didn't talk about humble things (her daughter is my paternal grandmother).
All best, Andy
