Hi can anyone help me before I pull what little hair I have left out :-)
My paternal grandmother Ann(ie) Ellison was the niece of Hugh Shimmin (1819 -1879)
Try as I might I can’t find the actual link.
I have three items associated with him...
1. His certificate granting him the status of a Free Burgess of the Town of Liverpool 27/07/1840 when he was only 20. It’s on the wall above me as I type.
2. A copy of The Porcupine (1879) with his obit in it all three pages of it.
3. A copy of a handwritten document by HS from sometime between 1853 & 1879 giving his and his wife’s family members and dates. A transcript of this is below – I’ve added Hughes death.

According to the Oxford DONB Hugh was born in Castletown but I think it was more likely Ballaugh which is where I think his elder siblings where born. The younger ones where born in Liverpool , but Ellen & John may have been born in Whitehaven where the family moved prior to moving to Liverpool.

All emigrated to Australia
I have found marriages between Shimmins and Ellisons/Hodgsons but still can’t find the link.
I have a tree on Genes Reunited and another on my wife’s Ancestry.co.uk user faith1944.
Can anyone assist or give me any suggestions on where to go from here. I suspect the solution lies in the maiden name of Hugh's mother Elizabeth.
