Thank You all! I have found out in the past few days that there are many conflicting records from my GGfather, Benjamin Franklin WADE s.o Robert WADE on different census declaring that his father was from the Isle of Man, then in another says he was from NY USA, another says he was from Indiana! These are all accounts from the same man, Benjamin Franklin WADE 1 living in Yamhill, OR who IS my GGfather (I have copy of his Death cert!) If he WAS born in IOM, or Scotland, and brought here as a child as the fam bible says (in my possession), could it have been around 1812 when there was a war going on? Would that be a reason for hiding the truth? Dodging US census?

The real question one of you could help on as I'm trying to get the USA stuff straight is: Was the Isle of Man EVER at any time considered part of Scotland? This Confused American truly appreciates ALL of you! : ) Barb
