Hi Len and Jane,
Thanks for the information. I was looking at the censuses as well, and the odd thing is that there are differences between Ancestry and Findmypast! Could they have used different enumerators' records - a copy of a copy? I know there were different filmings from the original sheets, and that copies had been put into the volumes.
Anyway - I followed Richard and Ann's son Richard b.1841 through the censuses, and found a similar entry to your one Len, except I had "grandson" for John.

Richard Radcliffe Unm 29 Night Watchman is also at 13 Boundrary St. Kirkdale b.Lancs Liverpool, listed on his own with numerous empty lines on the page. [In Ancestry]
Finally found the same entry in FMP, although arranged differently.

5 RADCLIFFE, Richard Waterman M 29 1842 Lancashire.
It was definitely Watchman not Waterman, and he was in the census twice. Too much of a coincidence to have been at Boundary St Kirkdale where he was in 1861 if a different person.
Jane, who was Elizabeth K Radcliffe Niece, also aged 12?
And where were JJ and Jane Eliza in 1881?
Do you know when Richard (b.IOM) died, and where?
Sue
