The attached section to the left was Beachmount built for Captain Aaron Williams after whose death it was acquired in 1895 by a company that built on the site the first Hydropathic hotel on the Island, it opened for the 1897 season. Now known as the Grand Hotel. (Constance Radcliffe in her book on Ramsey claimed it was the home of the Paton family, which is often echoed by other texts, however this was Ormly Hall)

There appears to be a long procession with some banners probably on its way to St Pauls's church. The slipway is the old cross slipway.

'Old Pete' was a character in Hall Caine's Manxman, for the American edition of which a photograph of a typical Manx cottage was required, local photographer G.B. Cowen suggested that of John Kennish, who in response to the numerous visitors adopted the role as his own.

The most interesting question here is how was the inside of the cottage lit - my guess is that a mirror was used to deflect light through the side window thus allowing shadows to be cast both to the left and to the right.

The mooragh was a section of inundated waste land, dry at high water. It was acquired in 1881 by Ramsey Town commissioners and after the necessary Mooragh Improvement Act of 1886 was passed development started in 1887 taking some three years to complete
