Pete's Cottage, near Ramsey'Old Pete' was a character in Hall Caine's Manxman, for the American edition of which a photograph of a typical Manx cottage was required, local photographer G.B. Cowen suggested that of John Kennish, who in response to the numerous visitors adopted the role as his own. |

JV. 41753 - [Interior] Pete's Cottage, near RamseyThe most interesting question here is how was the inside of the cottage lit - my guess is that a mirror was used to deflect light through the side window thus allowing shadows to be cast both to the left and to the right. |

JV. 20426 - Mooragh Park and Lake, RamseyThe mooragh was a section of inundated waste land, dry at high water. It was acquired in 1881 by Ramsey Town commissioners and after the necessary Mooragh Improvement Act of 1886 was passed development started in 1887 taking some three years to complete |
