Re: Tyldesleys of the Friary

Hi Frances,

Sorry about omitting the Lamothe Corrin marriage. That one threw me for ages. Malew was the obvious place to look, then Arbory, and then every parish on the island, and there was NO trace of them.

The reason is that when the war ended in Feb 1763, Dominique went back to France to collect his prize money and Sukie went with him as far as Liverpool where they were married at Liverpool St George's on 6 April 1763. This was quite close to what is now Pier head. and was built 1726 and 1734. It was owned by Liverpool Corporation and provided municipal services until 1863 when a Lord Mayor of Jewish descent was appointed, and the then incumbent delivered a vicious sermon from the pulpit. The councillors were so disgusted at such an unchristian attitude that they moved to another church. With the area becoming business rather than residential, this was a disaster as there was no congregation left, and it closed in the 1890s, and the site was cleared for a Victoria memorial.

Sorry I forgot to mention that one.
