That looks like Alfred (J.A.) Brew who died last year. He did most of his research in the MM many years ago before the IGI or most finding aids were available. He studied land records as well as presentments, marriage contracts, parish registers, censuses, and wills, etc., and usually put his sources beside the entries. He was always willing to talk about (and change) possible errors, and to check his notes, so it is a pity you didn't start a couple of years earlier! As he included sources you will be able to track back to where his information came from, when you get a chance at the MM.
