Re: Message for Marg
In Response To: Re: Message for Marg ()

Hi Eric:

Something more to think about:

OATES / CUBBON
The possible parents of Elizabeth could be Richard OATES DOB March 16 1728 D: Dec 6 1792 Braddan, and Elizabeth CUBBON DOB Dec 8 1728 Braddan, RO and EC married March 2 1753 – all IGI. Will for EC on BL’s w/site

Richard OATES DOB 1728 S/o Thomas OATES DOB abt 1695 Braddan and Joney KNEALE DOB abt 1695 Braddan M: abt 1719 Jurby. Will for RO, TO and JK on BL’s w/site

GELLING / OATES
John GELLING DOB: 1764 D: Feb 20 1854 and Elizabeth OATES DOB: 1767 D: July 13 1856: Will for both on BL’s w/site

JG DOB: 1764: S/o John GELLING DOB July 2 1740 D: July 31 1829 Braddan and Margaret QUILLIAM DOB 1740 D: May 11 1822. M: July 26 1763 Ballaugh.

JG DOB: July 2 1740 S/0 John GELLING DOB September 23 1722 Braddan D: September 29 1812, and Catherine KILLEY DOB Abt 1712 D: March 1 1806. M: June 16 1739

JG DOB: 1722 S/0 John GELLING DOB abt 1680 Braddan D: Feb 7 1736 and Ann MOORE DOB Abt 1688 Braddan. D: September 1748. M: abt 1715. Will for AM on BL’s w/site

JG DOB abt 1680 S/o John GELLING DOB abt 1655 D February 25 1732 and Margaret KNEALE DOB abt 1655 Braddan. Will for MK on BL’s w/site

On the IGI there is a birth for a Richard GELLING and parents JG and EG so the dates fit perfectly There is an MI for Richard at Kirk Braddan, “Sacred to the memory of Richard GELLING / son of John GELLING and Elizabeth GELLING / (alias OATES) of Ballamillaghyn who died in Port Maruin, Jamaica Feb 3 1819 aged 26 years and two months.”

QUINE / KISSACK
In your posting of September 26 2007 at 10.29 a.m. you mentioned Robert Quine and Esther KISSACK as being the parents of Margaret QUINE DOB September 15 1793. You are correct as there is a will on BL’s w/site for Esther and ties in 100% with Margaret’s birth. Her will mentions Margaret as an only child. I would also have expected that Robert would almost certainly have married again subsequent to Esther’s death. There is more than one marriage of a RQ but unable to confirm whether he did in fact, marry again According to the will Margaret QUINE was placed in the care of her three uncles, John and Charles KISSACK and Samuel QUINE as “sworn guardians and supervisors.”
*QUINE, Esther

The majority of these findings are on IGI and are, of course, suspect.

QUESTIONS:
Would RQ have given up his new baby to be brought up by two of Esther’s brothers and who is, presumably his own brother Samuel? Esther’s’ will states that “in order to avoid lawsuit and a controversy” that RQ (father) is committed to paying for Margaret until she reaches “at age.” Why would Esther tie him in like this, could Mgt not have been RQ’s child? Intriguing??
