If of any use I have an Edward Clucas (b. abt 1840, German) marrying Ann Skelly (b abt 1841). My data reads as followsL:-
On 10th June 1860 at Kirk Braddan, Ann married Edward Clucas a sailor of Peel, the son of Charles Clucas, also a sailor. Ann states that she is the daughter of Cornelius Skelly a sailor. Edward signed his own name but Ann made her mark X. It is not possible to know if any of her family were present as the witnesses were John Moore and the Parish Clerk James Killey.
In 1861 Ann and Edward are living in Back Shore Road in Peel with Ann’s mother, Ann Skelly.
In 1871 Edward is missing but Ann Clucas has a daughter living with her. This daughter, also Ann Clucas, was christened in Peel on 09/06/1861. There is apparently no death record of Edward Clucas so he may have died at sea between 1861 and Ann’s second marriage.
Ann’s second marriage was to Richard Stewardson. This took place on 11th June 1870 at Kirk German. Richard was a widower*, son of Richard, a Coachman. The witnesses were Philip Clucas P.C. and Daniel Gale. Richard signed his own name but again Ann made her X mark.
The witness, Philip Clucas, (Parish Clerk) pops up more than once in my tree - living close to the Skellys and possible Christian relatives in Peel, he was also responsible for presenting Ann's sister Jane for an illegitimate birth in 1867
I have more on the Skellys but no more on the Clucas branch
