Manx Genealogy Archive 1

Re: Best strings for Journal?
In Response To: Re: Best strings for Journal? ()

One thing I learned in my brief spell as editor of journal is that most readers are not that interested in generalised social history but want items dealing specifically with Manx Genealogy ie named individuals linked with descendants etc - also that a single article should not dominate the journal which often gives some editorial problems in converting a long article into two relatively self contained articles.

Re Manx National Heritage Library - I suspect they have not the space to duplicate holdings already held elsewhere even though the individual may have Manx roots - Roger Sims has a good database of manx-related holdings in other archives. To give a small example: I found a usefull illustration of a Ewan Christian designed building and passed it to the library asking if they, or Peter Kelly wanted it - MNH didn't but I shortly afterwards received a thankyou note from, IRC, Bedford CRO saying it had filled a gap in their archives, thus it appears archivists try to place items in repositories where they are most likely to be useful.
