Re: Ramsey records
In Response To: Re: Ramsey records ()

Maughold was the Parish Church for all Ramsey south of the river - Ballure was set up as a chapel of ease with small burial ground (+ it seems intramural burials) - St Pauls was built for the rapidly growing town on what became the market place following the filling in of that part of the old river bed but had no burial ground - it was also a chapel of ease but like Douglas churches it too became a town parish church in late 19th C tho the mother church was Maughold (similar arrangement to Douglas St Georges + Braddan) - it took over Ballure - the burial regs for which were it seemed kept somewhat separate from those of the mother Parish church tho some were it seems copied into the Maughold register - the Manx Museum hold the original registers from which I made my transcription

I suspect some confusion results from Mormon cataloguing and the use of their rather than Manx names for various regs.
