Thank you for all that information! I have that info (only recently) by working backwards. I knew the 1911 address was in the nieghborhood of where all my family lives. John McDonald died between 1884-1891(last child born and first census with Elizabeth as 'head') but I cannot find the correct death cert. (there are many as you might imagine) but once I went with 'Isle of Man' as her birth place all the other censuses made sense. i.e., names of the next generation's children. I have considered that John McDonald could have been a widower but with such a common name how would I know who's who? There is a town in Ayrshire called 'Straiton' but I only found births of two 'John McDonald' in time frame from Ayr and I guess I cannot be certain...so far.
