regarding James Radcliffe changing name to James Parker:
the Unassisted passenger list record is dated the 23rd March 1854 has Jas Radcliffe as AB
have found on trove newspaper SMH The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954), Tuesday 21 March 1854, page 4, there is a "Shipping Arrivals announcement". this only lists the captain and the passengers, which NOW includes a "Mr Parker" as a passenger. this Mr Parker was NOT on the captains passenger list
Do the newspaper lists reflect what for example was told to a shore based immigration officer by a passenger getting off, as opposed to a Captains log on the ship.also could it be the captain has written this log 2 days after berthing, when all the passengers have left the ship. If so this seems to be the moment when James first used the name Parker ie decided to stay in sydney.
