Dear Sue I am truly amazed at the depth of your knowledge
I had seen the nice summary of the american radcliffes in ohio, the "parish clerks"
I think I have been able to glean the info on "THe Parish Clerks" from another post thanks; ( about 6 or 7 paragraphs) which is really fascinating
I had not seen those MIs- can you still see these stones today in Andreas??- a trip beckons...
I had not looked at the census for douglas, only Andreas, so that is great to know thanks ie where James was .
my granspa said James was in Sydney 1854( in sydney census) and that he married in sydney 1857, so the james radcliffes coming to melbourne were not him. what has confounded me is the name radcliffe. Looking at various sources of evidence ( we knew his date of birth, his fathers christian name and mothers full maiden name) James seems to have changed his name from Radcliffe to Parker when he got to Sydney. This is a real mystery. I know there are Parkers in IOM but why would he choose that name??? On his marriage certificate in sydney 1857 it says father Lace PARKER mother Esther Sayle, born IOM. If anyone knows why and they want to contact me "off air" please do so.
Many thanks
