Re: Memorial Inscription
In Response To: Re: Memorial Inscription ()

Hello David

I am happy that Alice has been found, I didn’t want to purchase a death certificate to confirm who she may have belonged to just yet before investigating other avenues. I look on the manx bmd site from time to time and noticed the death of an Alice Garrett in 1917, I am not sure whether it was there before, hence my search to find her in earlier years. I don’t know if it is an on going project as the freebmd site is. I hope so because the Alice I am looking for may turn up on it one day.

Donna, also thank you for your help with this.

Sue, yes I am still looking for the elusive Alice Emily? A couple of years ago I came to the same conclusion that neighbours of the couple did back in 1895 ish, that the couple were not married.
His first wife, and only wife as far as I know, died just 6 months before him in Eastbourne Sussex, the county where she was born. On the death certificate it stated widow of Robert Cox, jeweller (master), her son G H Cox with a London address was the informant. The piece about widow of Robert Cox threw me a bit, but after talking to other people about it I came to the conclusion that possibly a man named as Robert was in the life of G H Cox a lot and stated that was the name of the husband of his mum. In fact Gordon does not appear on any census with his dad, he was with relatives of his mum in 1891 and then with his mum in London in 1901, whilst his dad was with Alice Emily, Isle of Man. The only connection I know of a Robert is a younger brother of his mum.

The only other way I can think of is to find out how long after 1911 Alice Emily ? was on the Isle of Man ie electoral rolls, to help narrow down finding a death on the mainland or Isle of Man. If anyone is able to help with that it would be gratefully appreciated.
