According to Jesse's marriage record on FS her father was called Peter. Looking on the census records I could only see one candidate mostly spelt as Bentall although there is an electoral record with the Benthall spelling. This man was from Essex and was a soldier he was based in Salford in 1881 but later returned to the south east after he left the army. He was single on these records. He died in 1903 in the Edmonton registration district. There appears to be military records for him on FMP but I have an Ancestry sub so can't check. This Peter could be the real father of Jesse.
