I found some more illegitimate births in the 1880s where the mother's name was given as Jane Mylchreest, and decided to follow them up to see if there's any evidence to show (or disprove) that they all belong to the same Jane. I'm posting the notes I made because there may be some info which will be useful to someone in the future who uses the search function.

JM3)-----Jane, 11 Feb 1866 Braddan to Ann Mylchreest (no father's name given)

MYLCHREEST Jane 5 Douglas 5776 124 134
MYLCHREEST Jane 5 Douglas 5775 48 41
MYLCHREEST Jane 4 Arbory 5778 6 62
The 7 yr old is dau of Thomas M and Esther Corrin, all b Rushen (JM1)
A 5 yr old b Braddan is a granddaughter of Jonah and Jane Mylchreest, living in Douglas. (JM3)
The other 5 yr old (b Douglas) is the daughter of Wm and Cath Mylchreest, living in Douglas. (JM2)
The 4 yr old b Marown is daughter of John and Elizabeth, living at Friary, Arbory. (JM4)

14 yr old b Marown is daughter of John and Elizabeth, living in Douglas. (JM4)
15 yr old b Douglas is a niece with Robert and Ann Vondy, living in Douglas. (JM2 or JM3---can't find the other one)
17 yr old b Malew is servant at Balladoole, Arbory. Meanwhile, Thomas and Esther (parents of 7 yr old Jane in 1871) have no Jane in their household, and they are living near Ballasalla. (JM1)

MYLCHREEST Jane 27 Douglas 4687 69 21
MYLCHREEST Jane 24 Douglas 4689 31 115
The 27 yr old is an unmarried servant chambermaid b Malew in a hotel in Onchan ---I think she's the daughter of Thomas and Esther Mylchreest who in 1881 are living at Billown Cottage, Malew, near Ballasalla. Also in the same hotel as Jane is a Joseph Rane age 24 b Hereford. They marry in Stoke upon Trent in 1892. (JM1)
The 29 yr old is b Malew, daughter of Humphrey (farmer) and Ann at Ballamoda Moar Malew ( she was age 12 in 1871). She seems unlikely to be the mother of illegitimate Jessie Ann b 1883. (JM5)
The 24 yr old b Marown is the unmarried daughter of John (general labourer b Arbory) and Elizabeth. Living in Douglas. (JM4)

MYLCHREEST, Jane 8 Jan 1888 D dsm 7 WILSON, Thomas
This Jane is a 25 yr old b Douglas in 1891 (By process of elimination, this should be JM3, although she gave her father's name as John Mylchreest ---from IGI marriage)

MYLCHREEST, Jeanie 3 Aug 1890 D dst 56b LITTLE, Charles Henry
This Janie is a 24 yr old b Douglas in 1891 (JM2---father's name William Henry Mylchreest from IGI marriage)

JM4----Marown born Jane married John Webster in Liverpool Dec Q 1896. The couple lived with Jane's parents in 1901 and 1911, no children. Highly unlikely to be the mother of any of the illegit children born to a Jane Mylchreest in 1880s. But having said that, 2 of those children are living at 3 The Archway, South Quay, Douglas, in 1901, very near to Jane Webster nee Mylchreest (at 1 South Quay)
******
JM1 married Joseph Rane in Stoke upon Trent in 1892.
They had 3 children, Cath Jane b 1893, Joseph b 1895 and William b 1898, all registered in Stoke on Trent.
Joseph sr died in 1899 and Jane then married John Smith in 1901.
In 1911 William Rane was an orphan nephew living with Edward Mylchreest and his family in Walton on the Hill, Liverpool. Edward was Jane's brother, proving that the Jane who married Joseph Rane was the daughter of Thomas Mylchreest and Esther Corrin, the Billown, Malew family. This Jane was almost certainly the mother of Jessie Ann Mylchreest b 1883.

This child died as an infant.

I've followed these children up to see if they can be linked to each other and to see which particular Jane they can be linked to. I can't find any of them in 1891, but in 1901, Robert Gregg Mylchreest and Euphemia Chapman Mylchreest are together as boarders in Douglas:

Euphemia Chapman 12
James Quilliam, widower, father Wm Q, married Fanny Karran, spinster, father Wm K, 7 Jan 1883 Braddan.
1 son and 4 boarders:
Robert and Euphemia were both illegit children of a Jane Mylchreest (the same JM who was the mother of Jessie Ann Mylchreest b 1883 ?)
Henry Ellis was probably the illegit son of Lucy Ellis (a Douglas hotel chambermaid b England in 1901).

Were these Euphemia Chapman/Mylchreest and William Ellis who were perhaps adopted by James+Frances Quilliam ?

Jessie Ann Mylchreest b 1883 might turn out to be the same person as the Jessie Benthall in Birkenhead in 1901 who married Thomas Joseph Shone in Birkenhead Sep Q 1905, but I haven't managed to find any evidence of this.
I wonder if the illegitimate Mylchreest children, Jessie Ann, Robert Gregg and Euphemia Chapman, were all together in care in 1891, perhaps just listed by their initials. It seems strange that they're all so elusive.
