Meanwhile, Averill has sent me a wonderful genealogy of the Cain family, and I found Emily Margaret in there with husband John Lewis Gelling. I know who JLG is (b 1880 s/o John Frederick Gelling & Agnes Curphey) and he belongs to an ancient Gelling of Camlork clan. The connection to Camlork fits well.
BUT:
John Lewis Gelling married Emily Quilleash 28 April 1904 Maughold, and here they are in 1911. This is NOT Emily Margaret Cain (wrong age, wrong birthplace)
1911 census at 26 Albany St, Douglas RG14/34679 RD635 SD3 ED18/26 SN91 (6 rooms)
John Lewis GELLING, Head 30 Married, Grocers Assistant, b Isle of Man Douglas
Emily GELLING, Wife 28 Married 3 born 2 living 1 dead, b Isle of Man Maughold
Lewis Curphey GELLING, Son 4, b Isle of Man Douglas
Phyllis Maud GELLING, Daughter 1, b Isle of Man Douglas
As near as I can tell, Emily Gelling(Quilleash) matches a burial 10 Feb 1946 Braddan age 63 and John Lewis Gelling 11 Mar 1952 age 71. There's also a burial of a Emily Margaret Gelling 24 Jun 1951 Braddan age 74, who would seem to be a good match to the original Emily Margaret Cain even though she should be only 72.
What's wrong here? The only plausible explanation I can think of, other than having the wrong "Johnny Gelling", is that JLG married Emily #2 after #1 died, after 1946. Is there a marriage cert for Emily Margaret Cain somewhere?
