Hello Again,
The Birth Certificate arrived today for Maude Louise Dixon b. 21st April 1880 at 5 Goldie Terrace, Douglas, father shown as Alfred Dixon, Agent. Mother Shown as Susan Dixon, formally Fyney. There was a note from registry with this stating that the name Fyney was not too clear and Fyney is as near as they could make out, given that they did not know I was looking for a Fynney it may be significant. Susan registered the birth and gives her address as Hewfied (sic) Cottage, Ludworth, Derbyshire, presently residing at 5 Goldie Terrace, Douglas.
I'm not sure that this takes the matter much further. There is no Louisa Dixon on census in 1881 that fits, save the one previously mentioned who is a boarder with the Cowin family in the Isle of Man. More circumstantial evidence from the Ludworth address as both Augustus Caesar Fynney and Susan Jones are in Ludworth in 1881 with his son Augustus Frederick born 1871 Douglas Isle of Man.
As far as I am aware "formally" should mean maiden name there is no such person 1837- 1870 that I could find on BMD
It's a bit like drawing teeth. I think I'll try a death certificate of one of the other children that may be siblings.
Just thought that I would report back.
Martin
