Hi Martin,
I look forward to seeing who registered Maud Louise's birth and gave Albert Dixon as her father. Don't forget that according to Brian her name was registered as Maud Louise DIXON without the "e" on Maud. I don't know whether the IOM registry is as fussy as the London GRO who have said "not found" to the slightest variation!
DIXON, Maud Louise, 21 Apr 1880, Douglas, [Page no.] 265, DIXON, Alfred, & KYAY ?, Susan.
[N.B. This entry has the page no. not given to you previously.] You can order the cert through "Contacts" via the website.
Hopefully you will be able to read the surname which Brian couldn't, seeing that you know what it probably is!
Regarding Alfred George Dixon, when I was looking for the archived messages I came across Alfred Augustus Fynney who looks like a relative of your ones. If Alfred Dixon didn't exist it seems strange that they would use that name? Or just coincidence.
It also seems odd that when brother Frederick Adolphus Fynney was so generous to Susan and her children that he wouldn't equally recognise his own illegitmate son, as you say. Perhaps Susan convinced him that they had married after Jane's death? (I didn't find a marriage.)
