Hello Carol,
Thank you so much for all the trouble you have gone to with my Christian family, truly very much appreciated, all the Gilbert’s and John’s were hard to sort out, but me making the mistake of placing Jon m. Cath Tear – as the Son of Gilbert – was the BIG problem – he is Gilbert’s Brother. (their Parents are, Jon Christian & Joney Skinner)
You said.
Made it to the FHC today. Interesting results but not what you are looking for. I found 2 bpts for Illeg John's between 1740 and 1750. John bpt 25 Nov 1744 s/o Bahee Curlett and John s/o Joney Cashins bpt 1 Sept 1745. neither entry listed a father. I think the John Christian who marr Cath Tear is the s/o Daniel Christian (Barry)bpt 29 Oct 1740. Certainly the math is better.
There were 2 bpts for John s/o Gilbert priv bpt 5 Jan 1752 and 9 Jan 1753. The John Christian of the 1774 will is the father of Gilbert as you surmised.
c/o Gilbert Christian and Mary Corkill
John bpt 5 Jan 1752 or 9 Jan 1753
Gilbert bpt 27 May 1755 priv bpt
Robert bpt 1 May 1757
Esther bpt 5 Feb 1759
Margaret bpt 18 April 1762
Thomas bpt 27 Dec 1764
So Gilbert is the brother of Catherine who marr John Radcliffe in the Belfast Radcliffe,s if I follow the thread correctly.
(YES – correct)
you said.
IT is interesting that John left very little to Gilbert, was he doing so well he didn't need it or were they not getting along?
(Gilbert had a marriage Contract when he married, Mary Corkill and seems to have been well looked after by
Esther Corkill, Mary’s Mother.
2dly it is agreed upon that the afforesd. Esther Corkill doth hereby
promise & oblige herself to give her daughter Mary as
portion or marriage dowry, the one half or moiety of
all her Effects now in present possession and
another Quarter of her sd. goods after her decease, , Exept
for part of that parcel of Intack land Called the Arch
= deacons Close which she reserves to herself wholly
to be at her own disposal at the Latter days, and
in consideration thereof the young couple vizt. Gilbert
Christian and Mary Corkill his Intended wife doth hereby
promise & oblige themselves to live & work with the afforsd
Esther Corkill their mother During her natural life time
and to be at Equal Expence in working the Lands & paying
the rents and Equaly to Enjoy the profits of the sd Lands
and from Gilbert’s parents, he was promised Chrow ghlas and the Curraugh, but by his Father’s Will in 1774 this land went to Jon Radcliffe.
so maybe Gilbert was well enough off with the Land given to him by Esther Corkill.)
Thank you, again, and YES you have indeed helped me a lot, by questioning the relationship between.
Cath married. John Radcliffe 14 JAN 1758 Andreas.
and John married. Cath Tear 04 JUL 1762 Andreas.
and making me see the mistake I had made with having John with the wrong parents.
and most of all this information is very much appreciated as the FHC in Christchurch is still not open due to damage in the earthquakes.
