Hi Sylvia,
Funnily enough I was in the I museum searching for similar records as 2 of my uncles swam in the Douglas Bay Swim.:
I managed to save a copy of the article but haven't managed to upload it to here.
Plucky Bay Swimmers
Ramsey man sets up new post war record.
Eight gentlemen and one lady set off from Port Skillion to swim to Port Jack
Names were T Drennan, H Reynard, A Kewley, W Grice, A Davies of the Victoria Swimming club F Bruce of Ramsey was invited to swim [might this be your man?]
L Simpson and ? Smart also competed and the lady was L Burnett.
Bruce won with a time of 48 mins 15 secs.
Record was held by RH Shimmin in 1909.
Sorry I haven't got the date but think it may have been in the 1920's.
I'm hoping to go to the I museum again soon so I'll try and find out more for you.
Hope this helps
Viv
