There is a family story that a relative claimed to be the first person to swim across Douglas Bay. We haven't been able to confirm this yet, and wondered when it would be likely for a feat like that to have been achieved? Also, does anyone know if there was a swimming or other adventurous club, whose initial might be B, whose mission it might have been to accomplish such a fete? Would such an event be recorded in the local newspapers of the time? I have in the back of my mind that at one time in the summer months someone entertained spectators with high dives behind Douglas Head, or Port Soderick, or somewhere - could this be the same person? Any help would be appreciated.
