In March I posted a photo I found recently at my parents' house, which was the starting point of my query. It shows a man in a full swimsuit marked with a large letter B - it's definitely not Captain Webb but I don't know who it is. I had previously been made aware of a claim that someone in my extended tree was believed to have been the first person to swim across the bay, and if this is true and has been recorded, might help identify my photo. I don't know if the B is the man's initial or stands for the name of a club or something else. Browsing the newspapers sounds a long job as I can't really date the photo.
