Looking up IOM records on film

The best way to use the LDS (unindexed) microfilms is to first print out the excellent IOM indexes for the area of research, and take this to use with the films. For parish register entries, bapts and marriages can be printed by surname variations and parish from the CD ROMs held at Family History Centres where the films are ordered, and these are thankfully all extracted records. Burials and other records can be printed from BL's indexes: www.iomfhs.im/lawsons/LawsonBMD/Main_Site_index.html
The will number and parish, and the film numbers, can also be found on BL's databases, and the summaries for many on Manx Notebook. Some land indexes are available on LDS film. Censuses are often freely available online in the FHCs.
