Thanks for your response Frances. I have also found reference to William Coulthard and Alice Fargher but I'm not getting the dates to tie in. The 1851 Census states that Alice was born 1770 in the IOM but James WAS born 1804 in Cockermouth. The same FamilySearch file says that Alice died 1846 in Lancaster. I know that FamilySearch's Ancestral Files can sometimes get facts wrong but I don't know how to check this one out. I can't even find reference to their son James and Margaret's marriage which may have helped. All I know is that James left Cockermouth to work as a gardener in Garston, Liverpool and took his mum with him.
